Back To Luzern

The last (and first) time i was in Luzern was the summer of 1999. I successfully extorted a whirlwind European vacation from my Nana by promising to stay in-state for college. There are many things I don’t recall about the trip (like eating next to a morgue and dead bodies being carried through the restaurant) but I did remember and very much liked Luzern and the nearby alpine region. However, digital cameras were relatively new in 1999 (mass market introduction in 1997), and I had only paper photos (no negatives) of the trip. I went back this weekend to get me some digital memories.
It was a little strange going back and visiting on foot compared to visiting as a large tourist group bussed around. I was a little turned around walking out of the bahnhof but, armed a half-assed IPhone map, only got a tiny bit lost trying to find the Dying Lion carving (I thought it was in a more remote place). As I made my way around town, things became more familiar, especially around the Chapel Bridge into the center of the old town. When I passed a giant Swiss man puppet in front of a tourist shop I stopped and said, “I remember you” because, really, who wouldn’t?
