Half way to Seealpsee

The most rewarding experience I’ve had in the Swiss countryside was my solo hiking trip to Seealpsee, a beautiful lake located in the mountains in Wasserauen. Just a 10 minute train ride from Appenzell you are taken into a mountainous region that is any outdoor enthusiast’s dream.

My journey started at the Wasserauen train station on a trail that lead up into a wooded area.  Many stairs and rocks guided me upwards to a clearing with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The best was yet to come. While I walked along the trail, cows, goats, and horses were grazing and friendly fellow hikers greeted me on the way and then there it was, the lake. It was like it came out of nowhere, a little oasis in the mountains. I felt so accomplished and grateful that I could truly experience the natural wonder of the Swiss Alps.
